The Catskill Mountains are full of hidden treasures, lurking far off the beaten path and waiting to reward the patient traveler who knows where to look.
Case in point: Art Reed's glassblowing studio, tucked into an out-of-the-way corner of Delaware County, on Fall Clove Road just outside the hamlet of Andes. At Sweetwater Glass, you can marvel at the elegant lines of Reed's hand-crafted vases and candlesticks, choose a piece to bring home, or just watch the master craftsman at work.
Local photographer Christopher Mooney took the shot above at a recent visit to Sweetwater Glass. To see a more high-resolution version, click on the photo's Flickr page. Photo shared in the Watershed Post's Flickr group pool, home to more than 1,500 stunning photos taken around the Catskills.
Update: Reader Gabrielle Pierce informs us that Reed is retiring from glassblowing. (News to us!) We gave him a call at his studio -- and, indeed, last weekend was Sweetwater Glass's last open house. But Reed tells us he's not leaving the area, and will continue to make tools for glassblowers out of his studio on Fall Clove Road.
"I'm not going anywhere," Reed said. "I'm just going to change the business, is all."
