Is "local" another word for "happy"?

Is our global economy making us miserable? Why did Americans' happiness peak in the 1950s?

"The Economics of Happiness," a film by Helena Norberg-Hodge, Steven Gorelick, and John Page -- all members of the International Society for Ecology and Culture -- places the blame squarely on businesses and networks that believe bigger is better. The ICEC believes that the answer to a host of modern maladies lies in localization -- local food, local trades, and local relationships.

This Saturday, the Pine Hill Community Center is screening the film. (You can watch the trailer above). And whether you agree or disagree with its message, you're invited to argue about it at a campfire-and-chili dinner afterwards.
