The traditional and the new will be in evidence as Andes kicks off summer with a typically busy Memorial Day weekend. Tay Home will celebrate its expansive new digs at 131 Main Street with a Grand Opening Party on Saturday. Rain or shine, the town's fulsome array of galleries, antique dealers and eateries -- including Sixty One Main Gallery, the Chace-Randall Gallery, the Cha Cha Hut, and Paisley's Country Gallery -- will be open for business through Monday.
On Monday morning, at 10am, the Memorial Day Parade will highlight fire trucks, bands, veterans and flags galore (the marchers will hold up until the scheduled Trailways bus to go through, which sometimes pushes back the start time by a few minutes). Show up early for a prime seat on the front porches of Woody's Country Kitchen and the Andes Hotel. Eating ice cream during the parade is permitted.
