DEC's woes mean job cuts at Belleayre

The Daily Freeman's Jay Braman broke the news today that Belleayre Ski Center is going to see some nasty job cuts:

Belleayre Mountain Superintendent Tony Lanza delivered bad news today to ski center employees. Lanza said he told staff members that top officials of the state Department of Environmental Conservation have directed him to make “substantial cuts” to the workforce.

The whens and wheres of the cuts are still iffy, Braman reports, but rumors are flying that dozens of jobs may be eliminated as part of Governor David Paterson's plan to cut 209 Department of Environmental Conservation jobs.

There is some good news out there about local ski jobs, however: Hunter Mountain is hiring. But you're out of luck at Hunter if you have a beard, according to the ski center's appearance policy:

Males must be clean-shaven at the beginning of their work shift each day.  Staff with mustaches must be neatly trimmed and combed daily.  No beards or long sideburns are permitted.
