This weekend: Batavia Kill Stream Celebration

For those who might not know what, exactly, the "kill" in Catskill stands for, there's a whole festival happening this weekend that will cement the definition of the old Dutch term once and for all.

On Saturday, the Batavia Kill Stream Celebration will jam every conceivable stream-related activity into a day-long festival alongside against stream-inspired arts, music, crafts and puppetry in Ashland, just outside of Windham. From 10am to 4:30pm, on the banks of, yes, the Batavia Kill, there will be live music, hands-on environmental activities like stream walks and stream tables, and all-around general festivity. There’s going to be old-timey music by the Almost Original Synthetic Swampgrass Jug Band, which is just about the best band-name ever. There will also be Japanese Taiko drumming, a theatrical performance called City That Drinks The Mountain Sky by Arm-of-the-Sea Theater (see video above), and an appearance by Green Peas TV, a new TV show about food and cooking. Not to mention exhibits by just about every Catskills- and water-oriented group in the region. The whole day is free, which is pretty sweet.
