Downsville couple charged with dealing cocaine

Today, Sheriff Thomas Mills announced that on Monday afternoon December 19 th , 2016 members of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office “Special Response Team” executed a search warrant and subsequently arrested two residents in the Town of Colchester. Investigators and deputies arrested and charged Douglas C. James age 57 and Karen D. James age 57, both of Downsville, NY, with one count of Criminal Possession of a Narcotic Drug (COCAINE) with the intent to sell in the third degree; a class “B” Felony and one count of Criminal Possession of Marihuana in the 2nd degree a class “D” felony.

The investigation and the search of the residence by members of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, to include K-9 Ozzie, revealed approximately one and a half pounds of Marihuana, one and a quarter ounces of Cocaine, the seizure of $6,026.00 in cash, a digital scale, several rifles and active NYS Public Assistance Benefit cards issued to both defendants.

Douglas C. James and Karen D. James were arraigned in the Town of Colchester Court before Judge Edel and remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu on $100,000.00 cash bail or $500.00.00 property bond.

Commenting on the investigation, Undersheriff Craig DuMond remarked “Sheriff Mills and I are extremely proud of the tireless efforts of our Investigators and Deputies. For a lengthy period of time these defendants were responsible for a significant amount of drug trafficking in the Downsville area and surrounding communities. We are happy to report the community is a better and safer place today. Let this reinforce our message to local drug dealers…we will find you, arrest you and bring you to justice…we will not rest or waver in our convictions”.

This investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected in the near future.
