Peter Manning, the Regional Planner for the Catskills Center for Conservation and Development, has sent us some more details on those Smart Growth grants that were announced yesterday. (He stresses that the plans for the money, which were first drafted two years ago, may be subject to change.)
Here are a few of the more interesting projects:
- The Delaware and Ulster railroad, in Arkville, is getting $51,000 to relocate an "historic engine and caboose" the the front of its property, along Rte. 28.
- The town of Andes will get $80,000 to implement an intriguingly-named "Calico Project," which seems to be a re-branding of the town with the its Anti-Rent War history in mind. (Alert to all local graphic designers -- the plan calls for a new town logo, insignia, flags, and banners.)
- And Olive and Margaretville are both getting new kiosks in strategic locations.
