RENSSELAERVILLE, NY – The Carey Institute for Global Good presents, “A Taste of the Forest: Wild Crafting Mushrooms,” the fourth installment of its Pleasures of the Palate Series on Sunday, August 17 from 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The best way to learn about organic food is to taste it, and even better is knowing it was gathered locally. Spend a day with Nova Kim and Les Hook, world-renowned wild crafters, learning about the value of wild grown food in your local forests, and how to gather and prepare wild mushrooms. Kim and Hook are suppliers of wild grown food, and own and operate Wild Gourmet Food in Vermont.
“Buying locally and organic is important, and so is protecting and gaining an understanding of our local woodlands and wild life,” said Carol Ash, President of the Carey Institute for Global Good. “Many don’t realize the economic value of wild grown food, and don’t often get the chance to experience its flavors either.”
Kim and Hook are professional Wild Crafters, gathering food in the wild; they call this food the original organic, and educate others on the worth of wild food for both agro-ecological and economic value, exquisite taste and good health.
The Carey program will have two-parts. We begin with a discussion, conversation and presentation of edible wild mushroom identification, and participants will be served a brunch showcasing a menu of wild mushrooms and complimentary foods. The afternoon session will include a two-hour walk in Partridge Run State Forest where a collection demonstration will prompt food lovers to move to begin confidently collecting mushrooms for one’s own use.
