This weekend: Hiking up to Giant Ledge

If you're a newbie hiker, this weekend is the perfect chance to tackle a trail leading to what many say is the best view in the Catskills: Giant Ledge. The Frost Valley YMCA is leading a free public hike on Saturday up to the aptly named 1,000-foot elevation large ledge, a 3-mile round-trip trek. If you're curious what you're in for, you can see a virtual play-by-play of the hike on the Catskill Mountaineer website. Fun fact: The trail is leading you across the site of an ancient meteriote impact zone.

Hike Giant Ledge with Frost Valley YMCA, Saturday, August 13, 1pm. Free. Trailhead on Co. Rd. 47 in Oliverea. Please register in advance by emailing rbauer@frostvalley.org.
