The kind and usually wise publishers of the Watershed Post foolishly gave me the go ahead to develop this new feature with very few fixed guidelines. So until they realize their rare error in judgement in this matter, I invite all of you reading this to send me tidbits of information relating to virtually anything about or taking place in the Town of Shandaken, and I will try to get it into virtual print here in this special section of this very cool online newspaper. You can email me at tomrinaldo@watershedpost.com with your suggestions and notices. Dispatches from Shandaken will be filed at least three times weekly. Here is number two.
Pachyderm Gathering Tonight
Shandaken elephants (otherwise known as Republicans) will converge tonight at 7:00pm at Glenbrook Park (1/2 mile North of Route 28 on Route 42) for an important ritual that dates back decades. This annual herd-like behavior, described as a "caucus" by political scientists who study such things, has the purpose of identifying and promoting potential leaders from among Shandaken Republicans, who can then go forth to hopefully provide leadership and services to all of Shandaken's residents.
Whether they ultimately suceed in doing so must wait to be determined, through stylized combat with similariy elevated leaders of other Shandaken factions in a highly choreographed ritual dating back even longer; known simply as "an election." Before they can prepare for that, though, they must emerge victorious from tonight's caucus, which sources report will involve at least two contested "races."
Tonight's Republican Caucus is the best chance Shandaken's registered Republicans will get this summer to find our local Republican politicians deeply attentive to all of your concerns -- because tonight, they really need your support. Don't miss this chance to make a difference. Be there promptly at seven.
