Chuck Schumer was in Shandaken yesterday to see the damage caused by the floodwaters of Hurricane Irene, according to the Daily Freeman:
The visit was conducted with Federal Emergency Management Agency Regional Administrator Lynn Canton, with Shandaken town Supervisor Robert Stanley taking Schumer through areas such as Oliverea Road where pavement became craters and businesses are expected to lose livelihoods.
“We’re going to take him to Fox Hollow Road where the house came off the foundation,” Stanley said ...
“Our job is to get you the federal assistance that you need,” he said. “There is no question about it that either a small town like Phoenicia or even a county like Ulster can’t handle all this on your own.”
