Candidate trailer talk

Sabrina Artel, a local radio host who interviews her guests at her vintage trailer's kitchen table, has a last-minute refresher course on a couple of today's most contentious elections, both of which have focused heavily on the environmental and economic issues of hydrofracking for in upstate New York.

Artel interviewed Democratic congressional incumbent Maurice Hinchey, who is facing a stiff challenge from Republican George Phillips for his U.S. House of Representatives seat, in September in Calicoon. She grilled him about his views of gas drilling, to which Hinchey has been vocally opposed. (The occasion of the interview was a screening of the anti-fracking movie Gasland.) Artel shared the audio of the interview with us, and we've posted it below in its entirety.

Artel also interviewed New York State Senate candidate and Sullivan County legislator David Sager, who is challenging State Senator John Bonacic for his seat, back in July. You can hear that interview in full on Artel's website by clicking here.

Both races are shaping up to be referendums on hydraulic fracturing, with Hinchey and Sager playing to the anti-fracking crowds. Be warned: Artel herself is vociferously anti-drilling, so expect some rather partisan exchanges.
