A 56-year-old Saugerties man was struck by a truck Thursday morning, Jan. 30, while crossing Partition Street, the Daily Freeman reports. He died of his injuries later in the afternoon:
Robert G. Carlson, of 210 Main St., was crossing Partition Street on foot, near Main Street, at 8:46 a.m. when he was struck by a “heavy duty, dual-wheel” 2005 Chevy utility truck driven by Elwood Hewitt, 60, of Saugerties, said Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra. Carlson was airlifted to the Albany Medical Center and died at 1:56 p.m., Sinagra said.
Police have a video surveillance tape of the accident, which occurred outside of a crosswalk, the Freeman's Diane Pineiro-Zucker reports. The Freeman asked for the tape, but Saugerties police declined to release it because the accident is still under investigation.
