Pine Hill man arrested for harassment

A Pine Hill man who was charged with assaulting his neighbor with a knife in 2012 is back in Ulster County jail, arrested over the weekend on charges of harassment.

Arrested on Saturday evening was 54-year-old Kenneth Fazzina of Pine Hill, according to a news release from the Shandaken Police Department.

The incident occurred in Fazzina's house on Academy Street and involved a female victim, said George Neher, public information officer for the Shandaken Police. Neher declined to release other details about the incident.

Fazzina's previous arrest in 2012 involved a victim who came forward to the press: Local artist Richard Treitner, who said the attack came after two years of threats and harassment by Fazzina. According to Treitner's account of the attack, he and Fazzina had a brief sexual relationship in 2010, and Fazzina threatened to kill Treitner if he told anyone about it. In July of 2012, Fazzina was arrested after entering Treitner's home without permission and assaulting him with a knife. Treitner fought back, and was not seriously injured.

In the more recent incident, Neher said, he asked for bail to be set for Fazzina because of his history, although the charge -- second-degree harassment -- is a fairly low-level misdemeanor.

"Due to his inebriation at the time and his previous violent arrest, it's not unusual [for bail to be set]," Neher said. "I'm erring on the side of protecting the people of the community."

Fazzina was arraigned before Olive town justice Timothy Cox and sent to the Ulster County Jail on $200 cash or $400 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Shandaken town court on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m.
