Walton man arrested after high-speed chase on I-88

Walton resident David Hopkins, 23, was arrested yesterday, after fleeing Delaware County sheriff's deputies and state police in a chase from Route 357 in Franklin to I-88.

According to a release from the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, Hopkins was spotted on Route 357 in a vehicle with no front license plate. When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, Hopkins drove backward and hit a mailbox, then turned around and fled toward I-88, where he continued driving eastbound. The vehicle was forced to stop when its wheels were punctured by traffic spikes on I-88 deployed by state police.

DAVID HOPKINS is charged with Reckless Driving (misdemeanor), passing in no passing zone, speed not reasonable or prudent, failure to comply, leaving scene of property damage accident, no front license plate. Hopkins was arraigned in the before Honorable Stephen Rose, Town of Sidney Court and remanded to the Delaware County Correction Facility in Lieu of $5,000.00 cash or $10,000.00 bond.
