Owner of the Roxbury Motel gets statewide hospitality award, is feted in Albany

Video of last night's NYSHTA awards ceremony by Joseph Massa of the Roxbury Motel.

Last night, the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association gave its highest honor, the 2012 Outstanding Tourism Executive of the Year award, to Gregory Henderson, the owner of the funky vintage-television-themed Roxbury Motel in Roxbury.

The award means that, in the hospitality industry's opinion, Roxbury's sleepy little corner of Delaware County is home to one of the best hotels in the state.

Henderson was honored at a gala event at the Hotel Albany. Henderson's partner, Joseph Massa, got footage of Henderson's big moment, including a NYSHTA video shot onsite at the Roxbury featuring Henderson cavorting in some of the hotel's many tricked-out theme rooms. You can watch the whole thing above.

Congrats to the Roxbury Motel!

The Roxbury Motel Owner Wins Statewide Achievement Award

January 5, 2012 – Gregory Henderson, Owner of The Roxbury Motel in Roxbury, New York, is the recipient of the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association’s (NYSH&TA) 2012 Outstanding Tourism Executive of the Year award. Henderson will be recognized at the Association’s 2012 Stars of the Industry Gala & Awards Banquet at the Hotel Albany, an affiliate of Hilton (formerly the Crowne Plaza Albany) on Monday, March 5.

The Stars of the Industry awards program honors employees of the hotels, motels and tourism-related businesses throughout the state who best represent the quality service and spirit of the hospitality and tourism industry.

“Every year, the state’s hospitality industry nominates its most outstanding employees. After reviewing all of the nominations submitted, the judges agreed that Gregory Henderson was the best of the best,” said NYSH&TA President Jan Marie Chesterton. “All the winners of this year’s awards are STARS in every sense of the word and shining examples of what New York State hospitality is all about.”

The Outstanding Tourism Executive of the Year award recognizes an executive who has demonstrated outstanding contributions of leadership and service to his/her community.

The Roxbury Motel, an award winning 27 room boutique motel, has been ranked as one of the top five hotels in New York State on TripAdvisor.com for several years, and has been named National Geographic Traveler’s top 100 places to stay.

“I never would have imagined I would be winning an award as prestigious as this one from NYSH&TA,” said Henderson. “It actually leaves me a bit speechless, but also very grateful for the boost in confidence. Recognition like this helps the dreams to keep flowing, the hard work to feel justified, and the imagination to lose its boundaries.
