Letter to the Editor: Let's make it easy to shop local

Dear Editor,

A few days ago, I saw an Internet statement that said, “I’m thankful for those who choose to shop local.” As a board member of our local chamber of commerce, I can say that I agree with that sentiment.

But I am also am thankful for the business owners that make it easy to “shop local.”

I want to acknowledge and thank the hard-working entrepreneurs:

  • Who opened their retail location on “Black Friday”, one of the busiest shopping days of the year
  • Who park their own personal vehicle away from the front of their business so it’s easy for customers to park
  • Who smile and welcome shoppers into their store, gallery, office, etc.
  • Who are open during their posted open hours

It’s these little things that make both visitors and residents want to come back and to continue to support the many wonderful and diverse small businesses that we have here in the greater Stamford area of Gilboa, Grand Gorge, Harpersfield, Hobart, Jefferson, Kortright and Stamford.

Observing the success of the holiday pop-up farmers’ market, we see that people have a thirst for supporting local businesses and buying local products. We want to encourage our local businesses to continue to make it easy for these supporters.

Sincerely,
Velga Kundzins
President, Greater Stamford Area Chamber of Commerce
