Woman blacks out, drives into birdbath

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office is reporting that a 53-year-old woman from Meridale reportedly blacked out behind the wheel in Meredith yesterday before driving her pickup truck off the highway and into shrubs, a house, and a ceramic birdbath.

Laura L. Young was driving with a 5-year-old child in the car when she lost consciousness for an unknown reason, the press release states. Both Young and the child were treated for minor injuries.

On June 1, 2011 at about 1:25 PM Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a one car motor vehicle accident on county Highway 14 in the Town of Meredith. Laura L. Young, 53, of Meridale, New York was operating a 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck in a easterly direction on County Highway 14 when Young stated that she had blacked out for an unknown reason. The truck drifted to the left and crossed over the westbound lane of travel before going off the north shoulder of the road. The truck traveled for approximately 400 feet striking two small pine trees, landscape shrubs, the corner of the house located at 6901 County Highway 14, and a ceramic bird bath. Young and her 5 year old passenger was transported to O’Connor Hospital in Delhi for minor injuries. No tickets were issued.
