Catskill man struck and killed by car

Catskill resident Harry Carr, 52, was struck by a car and killed around 7:30 pm on Monday, October 3, near a rest area off Route 23 in the town of Catskill. The incident is still under investigation.

A press release issued today by the New York State Police:

On 10/03/2011 the New York State Police at Catskill investigated a Car Pedestrian fatal motor vehicle accident on State Route 23 in the Town of Catskill.

Investigation revealed that at approximately 7:30PM HARRY A. CARR, age 52, of Catskill, NY, was walking on the shoulder of State Route 23 and was attempting to cross the entrance ramp from the rest area located just east of Ross Ruland Road. As he crossed the ramp he was struck by a 2001 Ponitac Sedan operated by JOSHUA DELLAMONICA, age 29, of Gilboa, NY, who was entering State Route 23 from the rest area. HARRY CARR succumbed to his injuries at the scene. 

The investigation is on-going and State Police in Catskill request anyone who may have witnessed the accident or observed Mr. CARR in the roadway to contact them at (518) 622-8600.

State Police were assisted at the scene by Cairo and Leeds Fire Departments, Cairo Ambulance, and Greene County Paramedics.
