Boy cries wolf in Napanoch

A report of a child drowning in the Rondout Creek in Napanoch had police, fire, and medical emergency responders scrambling to reach the scene in time -- but turned out to be a false alarm.

The 13-year-old boy who called in the report will be referred to Family Court, Ulster County Sheriff Paul Van Blarcum told the Daily Freeman.

Even though sheriff’s office personnel responded to the scene, as well as Hatzolah Ambulance, the Napanoch Fire Department and the Ellenville Rescue Squad, Van Blarcum said he was relieved the report was false.

“I’d rather refer a child to Family Court than to the morgue,” he said.
