K&J's owner, Joshua Filangeri, had already been hit hard by the recession. To make matters worse, for the first two days of the outage, Verizon did not forward K&J's phone calls to his cell phone. Filangeri was worried that if the outage continued, he might have to shut his doors. He said he lost about $1,000 worth of business because his customers couldn't reach him.
