Wednesday Night’s Show: Dave Johns – Procurement Forester at Cannonsville Lumber/Schaefer Logging

CFA-On-The-Air: From the Forest
Wednesdays 6PM – 7PM
WIOX ROXBURY 91.3FM or www.wioxradio.org

On tonight’s show we’ll be speaking to Dave Johns. Dave is Cannonsville Lumber & Schaefer Logging’s Procurement Forester; located in Deposit, Delaware County. Dave earns his living by working in the woods each day in these Catskill Mountains. He is responsible for harvesting one of the area’s longest-living crops – trees. Trees are harvested after Dave marks them with paint and turned into lumber at Cannonsville Lumber where they are then shipped both far & wide. We’ll talk to Dave about his day-to-day duties, experiences and thoughts about the forest industry, forest health & management, and future observations too. Tune in at 91.3 FM or stream online @ www.wioxradio.org.

WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?
Apple trees are beginning to show “green tip.” Green tip marks the very beginning of leaf emergence from dormant buds. Soon, serviceberry trees will be flowering too. Red maples are bursting red on the mountain-side and aspen trees are beginning to flower out as well. Lower in the valley, the willows have already showed leaf-emergence, and soon the rest will follow. The green is coming to color our eyes that have been dulled by winter.

May the forest be with you,
Ryan Trapani
