Wednesday Night’s Show: Catskill Forest Festival

CFA-On-The-Air: From the Forest
Wednesdays 6PM – 7PM
WIOX ROXBURY 91.3FM or www.wioxradio.org

What is “from the forest,” anyway? Well, why don’t you find out at this Saturday’s Catskill Forest Festival from 10AM to 4PM in Margaretville. We’ll discuss the importance of this event in raising awareness of the Catskills forests & their benefits as well as those involved in making it happen. There will be a logging competition (lots of noise) professionals as well as non-professionals will be competing on a variety of skills, including who can saw with precision & who can calculate exactly where a tree will fall. There will be lots of vendors, from hand crafted furniture, wooden boats, arts & crafts that are made from forest materials to wood & pellet stoves & furnaces and maple syrup. Educational presentations will also be offered by experts on subjects such as Catskills Golden Eagle Project, Copper vs. Lead Bullets, Young Forest Initiative, Awestruck by Apples (making cider), The Growing Deer Debate, How to Keep Your Private Forestland Private, Bringing Back the Mighty Giant – The American Chestnut, Forestry for Wildlife, & Wild Walks (NYS Licensed Guide). Tune in at 91.3 FM or stream online at www.wioxradio.org to learn more.

WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?
More golden chanterelle mushrooms popping up in the woods. Temperatures are really hot out there right now, and found me seeking out the coldest stream nearby. Other than that, spent some time taking the bark off of a hemlock tree to be used in tanning future deer hides; hopefully I’ll have some come hunting season!

May the forest be with you,
Ryan Trapani
