Wednesday Night’s Show: Al Cambronne – Author of DEERLAND

CFA-On-The-Air: From the Forest
Wednesdays 6PM – 7PM
WIOX ROXBURY 91.3FM or www.wioxradio.org

On Wednesday night’s show we’ll be speaking with Al Cambronne, author of the book, DEERLAND – AMERICA’S HUNT FOR ECOLOGICAL BALANCE & THE ESSENCE OF WILDNESS.

“Deerland is an inquisitive & eye-opening tour through the history, science, politics, economics, & cultural quirks of our uniquely American relationship with the white-tailed deer. From ecologists & foresters to farmers, hunters, homeowners, & business owners, Cambronne introduces us to a fascinating cast of characters whose lives, like yours & mine, are inextricably linked to whitetails.”
---Tovar Cerulli, author of “The Mindful Carnivore: A Vegetarian’s Hunt for Sustenance”

WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?
Leaves have emerged in Central Ulster County, especially the apple trees. Cherry and serviceberry (Juneberry) are in full bloom, while apple is just beginning. In the higher elevations, they’re still another week away. Been busy resupplying the wood that winter stole away and reduced to ashes. The deer are really looking rough as they transition from winter coats to their red summer coats. They’ll be pretty uncomfortable this week as temperatures climb into the mid-80s in some places. Can you believe that a little more than 2 weeks ago we were maple sugaring in parts of the Catskills? You know you're transitioning to late spring/early summer when you see swimmers on a few streams and trains of landscapers chasing after newly grown grass.

May the forest be with you,
