Schoharie County businesses have been hit by more than their fair share of crime over the last week.
Burglars broke into at least eight businesses in Schoharie, Cobleskill, Middleburgh and Princetown taking more than $11,000 in merchandise and cash.
The State Police are looking into a series of recent burglaries just after Thanksgiving at six stone and quarry businesses as well as Lenny's Tire in Middleburgh and TAS Sales and Service in Cobleskill.
The burglaries at the quarries and Lenny's were similar, police said. All involved break-ins on the weekend after Thanksgiving in which money was taken from a cash drawer or safe.
Snow blowers, a mower and a generator were stolen from TAS last week.
Police believe that some or all of the burglaries were connected, since the methods were similar. Pry marks were found on doors at three of the businesses.
In an apparently unrelated incident, a man armed with a hammer robbed Elroy's Liquor Store in Richmondville on Tuesday. The Daily Star reports:
Investigators said a white male wearing a ski mask entered Elroy's Liquor Store at 334 Main St. shortly before 7 p.m., displayed the hammer and demanded money.
The culprit was described by police as having a slim build, standing 5 feet 7 inches and weighing about 150 pounds. The man then fled on foot; no vehicle was observed.
So far, no arrests have been made in any of the incidents. State and county police are asking anyone who may have information about any of the burglaries to contact authorities.
