The death of a 2-year-old girl on Wednesday is being investigated by New York police as a homicide, according to several news reports.
The New Paltz Police Department told The Daily Freeman that an autopsy by Dr. Michael Sikirica determined that the toddler was killed by blunt-force trauma.
The Freeman reported that New Paltz police responded to a house on Route 32 in New Paltz at noon on Wednesday and discovered a family member with the child. New Paltz Police Chief Joseph Snyder would not identify the child, or say which family member was present when police arrived.
The state police, and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney are assisting in the investigation, according to The Poughkeepsie Journal. The Freeman has a video of what appears to be forensics investigators searching the scene on Wednesday.
