Tonight’s Show: Catskill Ginseng

On tonight’s show we’ll be talking about American Ginseng (Panax quinquefolium). This plant has been highly sought after for thousands of years in both China & Korea; it is also heavily sought after right here in the Catskills too. “Shang” is harvested mostly to satisfy the Asian market, but there are some who pick only a few to satisfy their own medicinal desires. Tune in at 91.3 FM or stream online at www.wioxradio.org to learn more.

WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?

Mushrooms are poppin’ with these damp, cool summer days. I went for a walk with my daughter last night and underneath a stand of eastern hemlock trees I saw from a distance some golden crumbs. On closer inspection, these golden crumbs were golden chanterelles; quite tasty too.

May the forest be with you,
