After the opening of Ken Butler’s Instrumental Desire: Strings Attached on July 4th, the exhibit has fascinated visitors to the Orphic Gallery.  The show is comprised of a very select sample of his incredible array of instruments, collages and assemblages and has left viewers astonished.  Ken’s brief performance that evening demonstrated the astounding sonic capability of his highly inventive instruments and left the audience in enthusiastic anticipation for his performance with an all-star ensemble at the gallery set for August 9th.

On that evening Ken will perform with Ed Potokar, Ernie Brooks and Michael Suchorsky.  Ed Potokar, percussionist and instrument designer, was recently featured with Ken at the Venice Design and Architecture Biennale Art or Sound exhibition sponsored by the Prada Foundation.  Ed has played with Audio Artists, Skin Slappers - an all percussion band, and The Buddy Scott Trio, and currently performs with John Houshmand in Soundwall. Bassist Ernie Brooks has performed with The Modern Lovers, Gods and Monsters, Edge of Heaven, Arthur's Landing and Bear 54.  The incomparable Michael Suchorsky has played drums and percussion touring and recording throughout the world with artists such as Lou Reed, Soldier String Quartet, jazz trumpeter Don Cherry, French rock legend Jacques Higelin, and is currently performing with Night Sky and Soundwall.

The performance on August 9th will begin promptly at 7 pm and last approximately one hour to be followed by a reception.  In the interim, the exhibit may be seen during the gallery’s normal business hours, Wednesday through Sunday 12 to 5 and by appointment.  For further information on Instrumental Desire: Strings Attached or the Orphic Gallery, please contact Phil Lenihan at phil@orphicgallery.com or 607-326-6045.
