WIOX Radio and the Orphic Gallery are pleased to announce that the gallery’s proprietor, Phillip Lenihan, is now hosting a program on the station.
The Orphic Radio Hour promises to be a genre-bending, limit defying, boundary transgressing hour of sonic wonder ranging from cowpunk to timba funk, musique concret to cabaret noir.
This program will air every other Wednesday from 7 to 8 pm and is guaranteed to be diverse and wild – even by WIOX standards. WIOX may be heard in the Roxbury area on 91.3 FM, on MTC cable at channel 20, streaming on the web at wioxradio.org, and on smartphones with the WIOX app.
This week – Wednesday, June 4th, the program will focus on the exhibit Images & Objects, Stories & Sounds, and will feature a guest appearance by sculptor Lenny Kislin and music of the subjects of Catherine Sebastian’s photographs.
Lenny will discuss his creative process and use of his unique materials, and preview the demonstration of the sound sculptures from the exhibit with a tantalizing performance on the Humanaphone. In honor of the musicians featured in Catherine's stunning photographs, the program will include Muddy Waters, Elizabeth Cotton, Taj Mahal, The Band, Levon Helm and the RCO All Stars, John Sebastian, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Pete Seeger, Richie Havens, Maria Muldaur, Jackson Browne, Jimmy Cliff and Mick Jagger.
So tune in to The Orphic Radio Hour this Wednesday, June 4th, and alternating Wednesdays at that time for the latest in musical art and artistic music.
