Good stuff, and pie bakers, needed

Did you get three toasters at your bridal shower? Buy a decorator piece that just didn’t fit? Order the wrong tool you never got around to returning? Consider donating them to the Historical Society of Middletown’s Penny Social coming up on May 10.
We’d appreciate your still-in-the-box contributions to help us pay for our new roof. Email history@catskill.net to arrange for pickup, or drop them off at the hall (778 Cemetery Rd., Margaretville) Sunday, May 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. (Please, no electronics, furniture or clothing.)
Nothing to donate? Consider baking a pie or a cake for our Mother’s Day pie/cake sale happening in conjunction with the Penny Social. Call Diane 845-586-4973 if you can help.

Or, you can show your support -- and have a heckuva good time -- by coming out on May 10. Doors open at 1, drawings start at 2:30.

So what the heck is a Penny Social? Sometimes referred to as a Chinese auction, it’s really more of a raffle than an auction. Prizes are displayed individually with a ticket jar or bag next to them. People buy sheets of numbered tickets (25 for $2), putting one or more of their tickets into the jars next to the prizes that most interest them. The more you want an item, the more tickets you put in the jar, giving you a better chance to win when one ticket is drawn from each jar. If your ticket is drawn, you take home the prize!
And we’ve got some great prizes donated by area businesses, attractions and individuals! Mark your calendar, enjoy a traditional fundraising event, and take home a pie for your favorite Mom!
