HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley’s Diabetes Education Center received the American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate for their quality diabetes self-management education program.
The ADA Education Recognition Certificate ensures that educational programs have a staff of knowledgeable health professionals who provide participants with comprehensive information about diabetes management, and meet the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs. Programs apply for the recognition voluntarily. This is the second time the HealthAlliance’s Diabetes Education Center received the certificate. The Center was first awarded the certificate in 2007. The new certificate is valid for four years.
“HealthAlliance is honored that the Diabetes Education Center has once again earned this recognition, and is proud of the team who made it happen,” said David Scarpino, President and CEO of HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley. “This recognition is a symbol of our commitment to ensuring access to high-quality health care for those with diabetes.”
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 9.3 percent of adults in Ulster County were diagnosed with diabetes in 2010 – slightly higher than the national level of 8.3 percent. The risk for death among people with diabetes is about twice that of people of similar age who don’t have diabetes. The Diabetes Education Center is a community resource center providing individuals with skills and knowledge to manage diabetes and prevent diabetic complications.
