Penthouse Roof Garden, Great Jones Place, NYC

After completing the interior of a client’s penthouse loft, we began drawings and samples for the penthouse roof garden. Some of the challenges included: pitched flat roof, delicate membrane roofing material, exposed utility panels and air conditioning compressors.

To avoid compromising the integrity of the roofing membrane, we used high-density foam panels to create columns that offer a finished level plane to support the Ipe deck. Planter boxes and seating were added along the perimeter of the roof. To provide privacy and block out panels and compressors a woven steel wall was constructed on site as well a 10’ high curved copper wall. The final result is a private lush oasis on a city rooftop.
