to keynote at The Catskill Mountains Film Festival
Filmmaker’s Academy Award nominated film,
“How to Survive a Plague” to be screened at Festival
Film Festival takes place on May 2, 3, & 4, 2014, in Delhi, New York
March 4, 2014 (Delhi, NY) -- Organizers of the Catskill Mountains Film Festival today announced that Academy Award nominated director/producer and journalist, David France will deliver the keynote address at the festival. The festival is being held on May 2, 3 and 4, 2014 in the picturesque town of Delhi, NY in the beautiful scenic Catskill Mountains.
Says Jessica Vecchione, Chairperson for the CMFF: “We are beyond honored to welcome David France as our keynote speaker for the festival this year. His film about the AIDS epidemic and the beginnings of ACT UP entitled “How to Survive a Plague” is one of the most thought provoking and interesting documentaries made last year. Mr. France’s storied career as a journalist and now a filmmaker will be an inspiration to all the attendees at the festival. He is funny, acerbic, intelligent and talented and we cannot thank him enough for his contribution.”
Mr. France’s film, “How to Survive A Plague” was an official selection at the Sundance Film Festival, and was nominated for Best Documentary Feature Film at last year’s Academy Awards. Mr. France and his team also acted as consultants for the director of the film, “Dallas Buyers Club”, nominated in several categories this year including star, Matthew McConaughey for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
Said Mr. France, “There is room in the world of film for everyone who is passionate about telling stories.
I only began as a filmmaker recently – it’s never too late. I hope that my career and my story will be an inspiration to my neighbors in the Catskills and budding filmmakers everywhere. I love this area and am happy to support such an important artistic endeavor right here in my backyard.”
The festival program will include Mr. France’s keynote, a welcome dinner, meet ups, networking opportunities and of course many screenings of submitted films. The deadline for submissions to the Festival is March 21st, 2014.
