March 1, 10:30a-noon Apple Tree Pruning
Agroforestry Resource Center, 6055 State Route 23, Acra, NY
Cost: $10
Many old properties in the region have old, neglected apple trees that don't produce much fruit. But you can take steps to restore their fruit production and health and provide valuable food for wildlife. Careful annual pruning will reduce the height of the tree, boost fruit production and spur new growth of the tree. In addition to tree pruning, you will learn how to remove competing trees and shrubs to let in light and reduce competition. This program includes a field demonstration, where we will be working on reviving an old apple tree on the Siuslaw Model Forest.
