Tonight’s Show: Woodland Use Guide

On tonight’s show we’ll be talking about CFA’s Woodland Use Guide. The Woodland Use Guide is designed for small landowners who want to know what they can do with the 5, 10, or 30 acres of woodland behind their house. Maybe one section would make a good maple sugarbush; another for deer hunting; or a another for firewood. How about unique features on the property? The Woodland Use Guide can tell you where there are edible mushrooms, leeks, or ginseng. This program is about connecting people to woodlands! Tune in at 91.3 FM or stream online at www.wioxradio.org to hear more.

WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?

It’s snowing right now here in the Catskill Mountains. After you’re done shoveling, plowing, or blowing snow from one place to another, try to get into the woods. Hemlock stands or planted Norway spruce stands make great places to take refuge in from the cold wind and deep snow; there you will find plenty of animal tracks from critters seeking cover from the elements too. It may seem hard to believe, but spring is on the way. My chickens have turned a corner, and are beginning to lay more eggs signaling longer days. Soon enough, the maple sap will be dripping.

May the forest be with you,
