Tonight’s Show: Woodland Valley History with Paul Misko

On tonight’s show we’ll be talking to Woodland Valley Park Association Historian – Paul Misko.  Paul has been visiting Woodland Valley since he was born and has made plenty of time to explore this unique valley where he has unraveled much of its history.  Paul will discuss some of the changes that have occurred in Woodland Valley – tanning industry, sawmills, quarries, state forest preserve, etc.  We’ll also see if we can get Paul to talk about some of his favorite places and the interesting characters he’s met along the way.  Tune in at 91.3 FM or stream online at www.wioxradio.org to hear more.

WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?

Winter has returned after spring-like weather for the last week or so.  If you’re burning wood, look around in the wood-pile for some hard maple, oak, or beech; something dense.  On bitterly cold nights like these, dense wood is required to last the night, as long as it’s seasoned wood.  Speaking of the wood-pile.  I have been watching a young, small rabbit grow larger since the summer that has taken residence under one of my wood-piles.  The rabbit’s tracks are the only signs of mammal-life right near the house.  He should be fine, since I believe his residence is under the wood-pile that will be used for next year.  So, on cold nights like these, I guess we’re both staying warm from the wood-pile.

May the forest be with you,
