Hanford Mills Museum is offering two hand-on workshops using the Royal Bride wood-fired cook stove in the John Hanford Farmhouse. The workshops, led by Pamela Cooley, will use recipes and techniques popular in the 1920s. On Saturday, September 14 from 9:30 am – 1:30 pm, participants will learn how to prepare a special occasion breakfast featuring waffles, eggs, sausage, fried apples, hash, cocoa and coffee. After making the meal, participants will move to the dining room to enjoy the bountiful breakfast.
On Saturday, September 28th from 9:30 am – 1:30 pm, the focus will be on creating a fall meal using seasonally available ingredients and techniques such as baking, steaming and stove-top cooking. The meal will include chicken, potatoes, vegetables, salad, breads and two special desserts, including Empire State Cake. Participants will then gather in the dining room to enjoy the meal they made.
In addition to being a familiar face at Hanford Mills Museum events, instructor Pamela Cooley has done open hearth and bake-oven cooking at Old Sturbridge Village and Genesee Country Village & Museum.
Participants can register for one or both workshops. The cost for each workshop is $45 for Museum members, $55 for non-members. Register online www.hanfordmills.org or by calling 607.278.5744.
