On Monday, August 12, the Catskills CRAFT group will meet from 5 to 7 p.m. at Root 'N Roost Farm in White Sulphur Springs, N.Y. Catskills CRAFT, or Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training, is an educational networking group for beginning and experienced farmers. Gardeners, farm interns, employees and operators of are welcome to attend the event.
At Root 'N Roost Farm (www.rootnroost.com), Cheyenne Miller and Sean Zigmund use permaculture methods to grow herbs, flowers, vegetables and to raise ducks, chickens and pigs. They practice no-till farming, use only human and animal power, and source used material for their building projects. This is a great event for anyone interested in starting a small farm or homestead.
Sean and Cheyenne will lead a farm tour and will focus their discussion on using their animals as their "machines" for farming, as well as farrow-to-finish pig breeding. The group will share a potluck supper after the activities.
