Sherret S. Chase Honored at Catskill Center’s 44th Annual Meeting!

The Catskill Center will honor its Founding President, Sherret S. Chase, at the 44th Annual Meeting. John H. Adams of the Natural Resources Defense Council, David H. Gibson of Adirondack Wild, Geddy Sveikauskas of Ulster Publishing, and Peter Borrelli—the Catskill Center’s first Executive Director, will join the celebration of Sherret’s legacy of natural resource conservation in the Catskill Region. The Annual Meeting will be held on Saturday, July 27, at 10:30 am at the Erpf Center in Arkville.

Guest speaker Peg Ellsworth, Executive Director of The MARK Project, will discuss community revitalization, flood recovery, and the enduring partnership with the Catskill Center. Bill Rudge, Natural Resources Supervisor of NYSDEC Region 3, will discuss the Catskill Interpretive Center and this unique partnership.

Sherret S. Chase, Catskill Center President from 1969 to 1981, played an integral role in establishing and fostering many of the Catskill Center’s partnerships. At pivotal points in their history, Sherret worked with The Friends of the Catskill Interpretive Center, the Hanford Mills Museum, the Thomas Cole House, and the Catskill Forest Association. Each of these organizations have created legacies of their own in cultural and historic preservation, energy education, and forest stewardship.

It was Sherret’s vision to create the first environmental nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the Catskill Mountain Region. His steadfast leadership has been a cornerstone of the Catskill Center for 44 years.

During the Annual Meeting, the designs and plans for the Catskill Interpretive Center will be on display. On exhibit at the Erpf Gallery is “Friendships Through Quilting”, showcasing the work of the Catskill Mountain Quilters Guild.

The Catskill Center’s Annual Meeting is open to the public with free admission. Registration begins at 10:00 am. Lunch will be served at noon. For more information, contact the Catskill Center at 845-586-2611, cccd@catskillcenter.org, or visit www.catskillcenter.org.
