This ongoing workshop welcomes both new and experienced writers. Call the office for more information and to register. Students are asked to bring a sample of either a story or a small piece.
Accomplished author Mermer Blakeslee has published three novels:
Same Blood (Houghton Mifflin, 1989), In Dark Water (Ballantine, 1998),
When You Live by a River (Narrative Press, 2012), and a non-fiction book,
In the Yikes! Zone: A Conversation with Fear (Dutton, 2002).
The San Francisco Chronicle has this to say about Mermer Blakeslee:
“Blakeslee’s world is lyrical and mythic, filled with magic, visions, and dreams.”
In Dark Water was selected by Barnes and Noble for its Discover Great New Writers series. Mermer is the recipient of three New York Foundation of the Arts fiction fellowships--the most recent in 2008. In 2006, she won the Narrative Prize (from Narrative Magazine) for an excerpt from her new novel, Leenie, and Narrative chose her poem "Visitation" as Poem of the Week in April, 2011. She was born, raised and still lives in New York’s Catskill Mountains.
