Eligibility:
Our First Annual Scarecrow Contest is open to all ages, individuals, families, clubs, groups & businesses. Each person, family or group may only enter one time.
Categories:
1. Traditional—Most Likely to Scare a Crow.
Typical farm & garden scarecrows made from cast-off clothing, burlap, gunny sacks, corn shocks, etc.
2. Any Other—Whimsical, fairytale, humorous, fantasy, celebrity, etc. Design a scarecrow depicting your favorite fairytale, storybook, animal or fantasy figure and let your imagination run wild.
3. Youth – Open to children under age 15. Groups of children may collaborate and enter together. Scarecrows may be either Traditional or Any Other in design.
4. Business—Traditional or Any Other. Businesses may display an advertisement sign with their name and logo not to exceed 8.5 x 11 inches.
Prizes to be awarded for first through third place in each category, as well as best of show.
Entry: There is a $10 entry fee due at the time of drop off. Scarecrows must be delivered to the West Kortright Centre by Friday, August 31, 2012 at 3pm. All entry fees are non-refundable.
Size: The minimum height is 3 feet; the maximum is 6 feet tall. Scarecrows must fit in a 6’ x 4’ space.
Construction: Scarecrows must be durable and able to stand up to the sun, wind and very possible rain showers. All decorations must be firmly attached to your Scarecrow. All entries must be hand-made. No commercial costumes, rubber masks, plastic masks, etc. will be allowed. Electricity will not be provided. No advertising or political statements allowed. (Note: Business category may have advertising.) The Scarecrows will be displayed for judging during a family-friendly event.
Duration: All entries will be on display to the public during the West Kortright Fair, Sunday, September 2.
Judging: Visitors to the West Kortright Fair will vote. (Guests pick up a ballot at the information booth on the day of the event.) Feel free to encourage family and friends to attend the Fair to vote for your entry.
Pick-Up: Entries may be taken home following the Fair, or picked up Tuesday, September 4 through Friday, September 7 during West Kortright Centre regular business hours. Entries not picked up by Friday, September 7 will become the property of The Centre.
