JANET’S CLASS follows a group of retired New Yorkers who are preparing for an acting showcase taught
by veteran Broadway actress Janet Sarno. Filmmaker Dorothy Lyman documented their rehearsals and
performances and has made a touching and sometimes hilarious, meditation on aging and how to see
the third act of our lives as an opportunity for personal growth and deep fulfillment not just a period of
loss and diminishment.

DOROTHY LYMAN lives on her chicken farm in Andes. Before moving here in 2003, Ms Lyman lived in
Los Angeles and worked in television as an actress and director. In 2006 she produced and directed a
film in Delaware County called The Northern Kingdom. It is available on Netflix. She has a fear of getting
old, so she made JANET’S CLASS. It helped.
