New Mobile Shopping App: Meeting on May 2

Woodstock, NY—On April 10 the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce & Arts (WCOCA) and Ozmott LLC, of Traverse City, MI, signed a letter of intent to establish a pilot program for the Ozmott mobile discount shopping application with Woodstock-area merchants. The new initiative will include local restaurants, shops, arts organizations, spas, lodging venues and others currently participating in the Chamber’s Experience Woodstock Card (EWC) program, as well as those who have yet to join. Representatives from WCOCA and Ozmott will hold an information meeting for local merchants on May 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Woodstock Community Center, 56 Rock City Road in Woodstock. All merchants—from Woodstock as well as surrounding communities—interested in hearing more about Ozmott’s new software application are invited to attend the meeting. The Ozmott name is a combination of “osmosis” and kismet,” and means “sharing your good fortune.”

The new app will allow retail customers equipped with an iPhone to redeem discount offers, share offers with friends automatically upon checkout, and earn “Pips” toward purchasing “Prime Offers.” Merchants who are currently members of the Woodstock Chamber and who have placed offers on the EWC can have their existing offers uploaded at no charge—and they are eligible for a special fifty percent-off introductory rate with Ozmott. Fees are transaction-based micro-commissions (as low as seven and a half cents on each sale attributable to Ozmott). Ozmott selected the Woodstock community for this initiative because of the EWC program already in place. Smartphone users with the Ozmott app will be attracted to the Woodstock area for shopping, dining and lodging because of the cluster of offers that will show up on their devices—both in list form and on a GPS-generated map. An Android version of the application will be available during the third quarter of this year.

Joseph Walker, CEO of Ozmott, laud’s Woodstock as “a forward-thinking community with a progressive and eclectic shopping experience. We will promote Woodstock-area merchants nationally via Ozmott’s existing and future marketing and PR channels throughout the coming year. Conservatively, we estimate that there will be ten million Ozmott end-users by 2013.” The overall mobile discount market has achieved meteoric growth over the past three years. In March of this year, International Business Times reported that consumer spending in the United States on deal-a-day offers is likely to go from $873 million in 2010 to $3.9 billion in 2015.

Those interested in attending the May 2 meeting should respond to ewc@woodstockchamber.com. For more about Ozmott see www.ozmott.com.
