Historic Huguenot Street and the Reformed Church of New Paltz present A Holiday on Huguenot Street on December 1 and 2, featuring holiday tours, a craft fair, horse-drawn wagon rides, and more. The two-day celebration is an opportunity for the community to engage with the National Historic Landmark District while enjoying family-friendly activities, many of which are free. The series of events will begin at 3:30 pm on Friday, December 1, with Historic Huguenot Street’s special holiday-themed tours of the historic Abraham Hasbrouck House and the Deyo House. Tours will depart from the DuBois Fort Visitor Center (81 Huguenot Street) at 3:30, 4:30, 5:30, 7:30, and 8:30 pm. At 4:00 pm, Duetimage Photography will be shooting family and pet holiday portraits in the Wullschleger Education Building (92 Huguenot Street). All proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of Walden. From 5:00 – 8:00 pm, Local at Heart will be selling homemade cookies in the DuBois Fort to support local food pantries. Also at 5:00 pm, the Reformed Church’s annual Craft Fair will open in the Wullschleger Education Building, followed by Soup on the Stoop on the steps of the Church at 6:00 pm. At 6:45 pm, the community will participate in a Paper Lantern Light Parade, beginning at the Reformed Church and proceeding to the Deyo House lawn for Historic Huguenot Street’s annual Community Tree Lighting. Luminaries will line the street and paper lanterns will be available for purchase at the Museum Shop. At 7:00 pm, Historic Huguenot Street will host its fourth annual Community Tree Lighting on the Deyo House lawn. The tree will be lit by Village of New Paltz Mayor Tim Rogers, Deputy Mayor KT Tobin, Town of New Paltz Supervisor Neil Bettez and Deputy Supervisor Daniel Torres. Crazy Cow Kettle Corn will be on hand selling their gourmet kettle corn around the tree from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm. Following the tree lighting, guests are welcome to take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus on the Deyo House porch until 8:00 pm, at which point the Big Blue Big Band will perform a free concert in the Reformed Church. On Saturday, December 2, the Reformed Church craft fair will open at 9:00 am, and Historic Huguenot Street’s holiday-themed house tours will be offered on the hour at 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, and 3:00 pm. Local at Heart will continue its homemade cookie sale from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm across the street from the Roosa House Schoonmaker Library (88 Huguenot Street), and Duetimage Photography will return to the Wullschleger Education Building at 10:00 am for more holiday portraits benefitting the Humane Society of Walden. In addition, a teddy bear-building workshop will be offered in the Wullschleger Education Building at 10:00 am for $15, until 2:00 pm. A petting zoo of miniature donkeys will be available outside the Education Building from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm. At 11:00 am, all are invited to the Church’s Christmas Café in the Social Hall (92 Huguenot Street) until 2:00 pm, and Historic Huguenot Street will host horse-drawn wagon rides along the street. Rides will be available every 15 minutes from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm for $5 (children 3 and under are free), departing from the DuBois Fort. Members of our local 4-H Club will present a petting zoo with ducks, chickens, homing pigeons, and pygmy goats at the DuBois Fort, and guests can also meet a local family of sheep at the Bevier-Elting House. Throughout the event, guests can shop for ornaments, Steiff bears, jewelry, books, and other holiday gifts in the Museum Shop (81 Huguenot Street).
