Vito D’Erasmo, 85, of Delhi passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 in Nyack, NY from an automobile accident.
Born on November 3, 1931 in the Bronx, Vito was the son of the late Dominick and Mary (Allocco) D’Erasmo.
Vito proudly served with the US Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1955.
Mr. D’Erasmo was married to Joan D’Erasmo, who predeceased him in 1999.
He received a BA from Brooklyn College in Speech in Theatre and later received a MA from Richmond College in Special Education. Vito had a great love for acting and theatre, he was an equity actor, receiving his training at the Pasadena Playhouse in CA and at the American Academy for Dramatic Arts in NYC, Vito was also an active actor in local theatre here in the Catskills.
Vito was a special education teacher for the New York Public School System in NY City, where he worked for nearly 20 years with middle school children. Upon retirement he moved to the Catskills. Following the passing of his wife Joan, Vito took a position at SUNY Delhi as an Adjunct Professor, teaching Public Speaking, retiring again just this past year. He also was a Disc Jockey with a weekly "Swing Easy" radio show on WIOX Radio in Roxbury.
Vito had a great zest for life, he enjoyed playing golf, enjoying a great meal with friends and trips to the casino.
He is survived by one sister: Mary Moreschi of the Bronx; step children: Linda (Mark Papa) Aragon of Carmel and Russell (Patricia Saxby) Aragon of Queens; grandchildren: Stephen and Nathan; companion: Pat Nabinger of Delhi and her children: Christine, Carolyn, Laura and Leanne; He was “Papa” to 11 adopted grandchildren; Vito is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at 1PM on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the United Ministry Church of Delhi, 1 Church St., Delhi, with the Rev. Bobby Outterson-Murphy officiating.
