Benefit dinner planned for Delhi fire victims

Fire destroyed the Delhi home of the Gerry and Lilly Breen on February 3.  In response, The Angels of Delaware County have partnered with Jonah Shaw, owner of the Quarter Moon Café to sponsor a “pass-a-dish” dinner fund-raiser for the Breens at the restaurant on Friday, February 28 with seatings at 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Founding Angels, Carol Spinelli and Melissa Wakin, are reaching out to friends and neighbors to support these longtime active members of the Delhi community, hoping to raise funds for the cost of any special-need retrofitting  necessary in their new home.

“We know the response to the needs of this family will be overwhelming.  Lilly and Gerry have been here for 43 years, raising their own family of five children, and taking in many others in need of shelter.”

When approached about the event, Jonah’s immediate response was, “It is a privilege to be able to lend a hand to such a giving family as the Breens. Stepping into their house always felt like a continuous social event…borrowing sports equipment, getting ready for the canoe regatta, playing ping pong, or hanging out in the tree house.”

There will be three seatings and organizers are expecting a large turnout, so please e-mail your advance seating reservation to info@quartermooncafe.com.

Please bring a dish-to-pass. The Quarter Moon Cafe will be serving wine, Ommegang beer, and cocktails, with all proceeds going to the fund. Suggested donation of $40/person. Needless to say, more would be better, and less would be welcomed. Cash or checks made out to Gerry and Lilly Breen.

If you are unable to attend, but would still like to contribute, please mail checks to: Quarter Moon Cafe, 53 Main Street, Delhi, NY 13753.
