Spring is here and that means nests, eggs, and baby birds! Join Cornell Cooperative Extension and Cornell Lab of Ornithology Nestwatch program staff at the The Willows at Brandow Point in Athens. On our last visit to The Willows, NestWatch staff teamed up with you to install nest boxes (also called birdhouses). Now we will learn how to safely check those boxes and record important information such as the GPS coordinates of our nest sites, species of birds, and number of eggs and babies. Information we collect, aka “data”, will be added to NestWatch, a citizen science project that invites nature enthusiasts to report birds’ nests to scientists at Cornell. Learn tricks for findings nests “outside the box” and get started NestWatching your backyard birds. Come back for Workshop 3 and build a nest box to take home. These free, multi-part workshops are geared toward families with children ages 8-13.
