Letter to the Editor: Help save the historic Deposit movie theater

To the Editor:

As with other small theaters in our area, our beloved Deposit State Theatre is facing the prospect of closure unless sufficient funds can be raised to convert to a digital projection system by the end of 2013.

Our beautiful Deposit Theatre, built in 1937, has survived multiple disasters over the years, including fire, floods, and a collapsed roof. The community has always stepped up to get the theatre back on its feet. With this mandated conversion to an expensive digital system, the need for help is again great.

The cost for a new system is over $63,000. To date the Theatre has raised about half of that amount, which means they must raise an additional $30,000.

We here in Deposit are asking our friends and neighbors in the Catskills to please help us meet our goal so our Theatre can remain open for all to enjoy. Please make contributions payable to the Deposit Community Theatre and send them to: Deposit Theatre, PO Box 318, Deposit, NY 13754.

Thank you so very much!
