Esopus burglar caught in the act

A 51-year-old burglar reportedly startled a homeowner in his own house yesterday morning.

The alleged intruder, Jeffrey DePace, fled when the resident confronted him, but was soon located by Ulster County Sheriff's deputies, who arrested DePace and charged him with burglary.

Deputies from the Ulster County Sheriff's Office report the arrest of Jeffrey DePace, 51 years old, of St Remy for Burglary 2nd Degree a felony, and the misdemeanor of criminal mischief 4th degree.

Deputies responded to a residence on Tooley Dr. in the Town of Esopus at about 2:13 AM on Sunday morning to investigate a 911 call reporting an intruder in the residence. The homeowner woke to find a stranger in his house. The resident was able to provide a description of the intruder who fled when confronted by the homeowner and Sheriff’s deputies located DePace a short time later. DePace was arraigned in the Town of Esopus Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 property bond.
