Emilio Maya gets another year-long reprieve

From the Daily Freeman:

Argentine immigrant and Saugerties restaurant owner Emilio Maya has, for the second time, received a one-year stay of deportation, according to U.S. Rep. Maurice Hinchey.

Hinchey, D-Hurley, said in an e-mail on Tuesday that the stay was granted by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency because Hinchey has introduced a bill in Congress that, if approved, would let Maya remain in the United States.

Maya, a former government informant who was to be deported next week, received an identical 11th-hour stay last February.

More background on Emilio Maya and his sister, Analia, who is currently awaiting word on whether she can legally stay in the U.S. as the wife of a citizen.
